I have amazing, happy-making news, and I’m going to attempt to remain professional throughout this blog post. Ahem.
Clarity has been optioned for television!
Kim Harrington's CLARITY, in which a teenage girl uses her visions to track a murderer and defend her brother's innocence, to Warner Brothers TV by Shari Smiley at CAA, on behalf of Scott Miller at Trident Media Group.
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!*
I’ve actually been sitting on this news for months, waiting for things to get signed and official. And every time someone mentioned to me, “I think Clarity would make a great TV show,” I smiled and nodded, but inside I was all ZOMG ME TOO I WISH I COULD TELL YOU MY SECRET BUT I CAN’T.**
And now I can! Yay!
So, this doesn’t mean Clarity will definitely become a show. (BUT HOW FREAKING AWESOME WOULD THAT BE?***) It’s just optioned right now. A gazillion other things have to happen for the show to become reality (like a pilot script, casting, shooting the pilot, a network pick-up, etc.). All these things I know nothing about and have nothing to do with. But, seriously guys, our Clare could not be in better hands. Warner Brothers Television is a TV powerhouse. Their production history includes some of my all-time favorites: The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Veronica Mars, Pretty Little Liars, and a gazillion other awesome shows. I am thrilled beyond words.****

I love TV series based on books mostly for the fact that they bring people into the stores to buy/read the books. They take the shows in very different directions, of course, usually only peripherally connected to the source material, but it's the rare kind of television that encourages reading, and I'm awlays for that. Congrats!

Congratulations!!!! While I love books that are made into movies, they have to leave out a lot to keep the time under 2 hours. A problem that you don't have to worry about with TV series :-)

What's really odd is that despite possible changes in story and characters, I find tv shows based on books more entertaining and enjoyable than films based on books. I think it's that with a film, you want it to match the book one hundred percent, but for some strange reason, readers tend to be more lenient with television, probably because we know it'll at least last ten episodes and we're interested in seeing how the writers of the show interpret the characters and plot to last at least that long, and even longer if the show gets a full season or more. I don't understand it myself, but I definitely agree with it, especially as a fan of The Vampire Diaries, Nine Lives of Chloe King, and the first season of Gossip Girl. Anyway, I'm thrilled that Clarity may become a television show, and if one exists, I will most certainly watch it.

I love the idea of Clarity becoming a TV show. Any YA books that become TV shows always prove to be outstanding on the screen. Even if it doesn't follow the book directly, I think it will be fabulous!
