The Fern Family Interviews Myra McEntire

The winner of the Beauty Queens giveaway is: April X! Now, onto the interview!

The Fern Family—Clare, Perry, and Starla—run Fern Family Readings out of their home in Eastport, MA. (Actually they just live in the pages of my Clarity books.) But today they’re welcoming Myra into their reading room for a little Q&A.

Clare: Welcome to our home. Have you had a psychic reading done before? If so, what did you think of it?

Myra: I have not! I'm afraid I would giggle.

Perry: Do it! I bet you’d be extra cute when you giggle.

Starla: Ignore him, Myra.

Clare (closing her eyes): Think about your book, HOURGLASS, for a moment. I will read your mind and then tell everyone what it’s about.

One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn't there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents' death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She's tried everything, but the visions keep coming back. So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson's willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.

Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he's around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Full of atmosphere, mystery, and romance, Hourglass merges the very best of the paranormal and science-fiction genres in a seductive, remarkable young adult debut.

Is that right?

Starla (sighs): Clare just memorized that passage from the back of your book. I’m the real telepath in the family. Clare, stick to your own ability.

Clare (laughs): Okay, back to the interview. Our business is in a tourist town on Cape Cod. What is your favorite vacation spot? And where would you love to visit that you haven’t yet?

Myra: I love the fall in the mountains. I'm a fan of the beach, too, but, as a parent, I can no longer slide a lime wedge into a Corona and close my eyes in my beach chair, because of the possible jellyfish stings, shark bites, or drowning of my offspring. I'd actually like to check out the Pacific Northwest/Canada. The pictures I've seen are so gorgeous.

Perry: If you could have any psychic or paranormal gift, what would you choose? Don’t choose mine. It sucks.

Myra: Mind reading. Ohhhhhh, yeah.

Starla (raising her hands): I WIN!

Clare: This wasn’t a contest, Mom. Myra, give us an insider secret about the creation of your book. Come on, we’re good with secrets.

Myra: The title for HOURGLASS was originally THE ESTABLISHMENT. I think I was probably channeling Hyde from that 70's show. We changed it right before it went on submission, thank heavens.

Starla: Let’s close out with some easy questions. Pool or beach?

Myra: Wherever there's a cabana boy and a baby sitter.

Perry: I can be your cabana boy…

Clare: Favorite food?

Myra: Italian. Always and forever.

Clare: I love Italian, too. Thanks for visiting with us!

Starla: And since Myra’s super awesome, she’s going to give away a signed HOURGLASS poster to one lucky winner. To enter, just comment below sometime before 6/14/11.

Perry: For more about Myra and HOURGLASS, visit her website: http://www.myramcentire.com/
