Even though the weather here lately has me fantasizing about punching Mother Nature in the face, it will soon (supposedly) turn sunny and warm and become…
BEACH READ TIME.
Yes. I said it. Beach read time. The most wonderful time of the year.
And, to celebrate, I’m doing a giveaway of Libba Bray’s new book in hardcover (released today), Beauty Queens!
Teen beauty queens. A "Lost"-like island. Mysteries and dangers. No access to email. And the spirit of fierce, feral competition that lives underground in girls, a savage brutality that can only be revealed by a journey into the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Oh, the horror, the horror! Only funnier. With evening gowns. And a body count.
Dude…beauty pageant contestants crashed on a desert island? It’s like this book was made to be read on the beach.
To enter just comment with your answer to this deep philosophical question about summer reading preferences: pool or beach?
Comment by 6/6/11. I'll announce the winner on Tuesday, 6/7/11. US only. I’ll also toss in some Clarity swag because that’s how I roll.

This is a no-brainer! Beach! I much prefer the real thing. :)
ReplyDeletePool--Because there are no dead fish at a pool, unless something goes terribly, terribly wrong.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the beach. Pool is okay at times, but the beach is more open. Plus, I love the feeling of sand in between my toes. :D

I love the beach, but I'd go with pool. I like being able to see the bottom. :P
ReplyDeletetheatredreamer08(at)hotmail(dot)com
Neither! Deck of a boat is the best- you can lie on cushions while you work on your tan, but jump in whenever you want :) Thanks for the giveaway!

Pool! I am not a huge fan of sand everywhere. Love to look at it, but digging it out of my fingernails ... not so much!
ReplyDeletethe beach. definitely.
ReplyDeleteBeach please!!!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about the beach. The sand, the wind, the saltyness, the surfing....the cabana boys bring me tropicaly drinks all day ;D
ReplyDeleteYep, definitely a beach kind of girl.
And yay for Beauty Queens finally being released! I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

I definitely prefer the beach but I do love to jump into a pool on a hot day....not that I can do that often. :) BTW, Clarity is one of the best books I have read this year. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOoh, trick question for someone living in a cooler climate. LOL I guess I'll have to go with my dream: the beach!!
ReplyDeletePool! We just set up an above ground pool in my yard.. but now the weather won't cooperate. figures!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna go with pool. I don't like the chlorine, but I went to the beach last summer and it was windy, really hot, and I got a sunburn--not good relaxing reading conditions. At least by the pool you can run inside if mother nature starts acting afool.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the giveaway! I love Libba Bray and I've been dying to read this one!

Beach! My family goes on a big beach trip every summer and nothing is better!
ReplyDeletebeach. i love the smell of the ocean, don't love the smell of chlorine.

Pool! You can what's in it. There are no surprises.

Beach, 100%! I love the feel of the sand, it just says summer to me.

The sand at the beach... but I love swimming in a pool. I'll swim in something that doesn't have things that can eat me!

Beach ftw!!!

Well.... I'm actually not much of a water person. Pools can be fun if you have other people that want to play some sort of game. I don't like the ocean, but that beach can be fun. The most common water experiences for me are lake beaches and those have been a lot of fun. We have played football in the shallow water with 12 people, lots of fun
ReplyDeleteSo I'm going to go with a lake's beach. :)

I love reading on the beach. Thanks for the giveaway.

Beach all the way! I love the sound and the smell of the ocean, and the softness of the sand between my toes. Too many bodies per square foot in a pool, and the chlorine dries out my hair.
ReplyDeleteI now officially am craving a trip to the beach.
Pool! No sand in my books or swimsuit. Plus the air conditioned house is very close by if it gets to hot or sunny.
ReplyDeleteBeach!!!! Love to have the sound of the waves in the background and dig my toes into the warm sand as I read.
ReplyDeleteBeach, definitely. The smell, the sound, plus it's much more enjoyable to read a book while listening to the waves crash than it is poolside.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway!

Though I love, love, love the beach--got a pool in my backyard and it's so nice not to have sand in your book, between your toes, on your drink, and in places that just don't NEED sand--so pool for me.

This book is so pretty and shiny in real life! (I saw it sitting on the shelf, beautiful and unattainable...) I lurve swag, too! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a pool type of girl. It's cleaner, more private, and much easier. Not big on hot sand burning the soles of my feet. XD
Thanks!

The pool!! I don't like sand that much, it get into everything.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!! :D

Beach definitely! Love the sand & you can find shade should you need it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

Pool. I'm such a snob lol I don't really like the sand and I'm scared of sharks, jellyfish, and what not haha
ReplyDeleteaprilxu2222@gmail.com
POOL!!! My asian skin is so sensitive I get sun-fried withing 3-5 min.! Swimming is easier and I dont have to get sun-fried as much D<
ReplyDeleteSorry I forgot my email >_<

Oh wow,
ReplyDeleteI've been DYING to read "Beauty Queens" by Libba Bray so thank you SO much for this giveaway opportunity!
As for the answer: the beach. Most definitely. Nothing beats being immersed in a wonderful novel, and the sensation of laying on your stomach on a beach towel, warmed by the sand in the heat of the day, as the waves gently crash onto shore, bringing with them the welcoming sight of the deliciously bubbly, cool froth that I so love putting my toes into. You can get a tan at the pool, the same as the beach - but at the beach you can get a poor man's pedicure. Sand may be icky, but it is a great exfoliant!!!
Again, thank you for the giveaway, and now I am pining to go to the beach :D

Thanks for the giveaway! My philosophical answer to your question: beach:D
ReplyDeletegoldie-mail(AT)web(DOT)de
Uhh, idk, I like both. Beach cause of the cool sand but pool cause there is no seaweed. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteI would love to say the beach, but I live in AZ and we seriously lack in that department. I'll say pool then, but I'm mostly an inside girl seeing as it gets over 100 and I'm pretty pasty white.. lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!!
