CLARITY PLAYLIST

Here is the Clarity playlist! I've included which chapter or scene goes well with the song, and in most cases I've explained why. In some, I can't due to spoilers. But you'll know when you read it. :)

Song: Super Freak by Rick James
Listen During: The beginning of Chapter 2
Thoughts: This one is pretty obvious!

Song: Daughters of the Kaos by Luscious Jackson
Listen During: Chapter 2
Thoughts: I’ve always loved this song. And this is the chapter where we get to know Clare. She’s snarky, quirky, and has badass tendencies and this song fits her perfectly.

Song: Army of Me by Bjork
Listen During: Chapter 3
Thoughts: I thought of this song during the Clare and Tiffany confrontation. It reflects Clare’s frustration, anger, and kick-assery (made up word alert!).

Song: Cannonball by Damien Rice
Listen During: Chapter 5
Thoughts: I think this song is a good representation of Clare’s conflicted feelings about someone in this chapter. Old memories, old feelings.

Song: The Sea by Morcheeba
Listen During: The end of Chapter 6
Thoughts: This is the perfect song for sitting on the beach at night. Where Clare is at this point!

Song: How Soon is Now? by The Smiths
Listen During: The end of Chapter 7
Thoughts: I’ve always thought of this song as the outcast’s anthem (and loved it in high school when I wasn't exactly Miss Popularity myself). I think this is the perfect song for the end of Chapter 7 and Clare's thoughts there.

Song: We Used to Be Friends by The Dandy Warhols
Listen During: The reading in Chapter 9
Thoughts: I’m including this song partly because of the friendship that is examined in this chapter and also as a hat tip to Veronica Mars. ;)

Song: Under Your Skin by Luscious Jackson
Listen During: Chapter 10
Thoughts: Fireworks (of all kinds) in this chapter! This is a good song for two people who find that sparks and feelings are growing the more time they spend together.

Song: Closer by Kings of Leon
Listen During: Chapter 11
Thoughts: This is a wonderfully spooky song, and I think it fits a creepy scene here.

Song: Where Is My Mind? by The Pixies
Listen During: Chapter 19
Thoughts: I’ve always thought this song was a bit sexy, and it’s also ocean-themed, which makes it perfect if there happens to be a beach kiss in this chapter. ;)

Song: The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen
Listen During: Chapter 20
Thoughts: This creepy song goes well with Clare’s vision here.

Song: Narc by Interpol
Listen During: Chapter 23
Thoughts: This is one of the best songs by one of my favorite bands of all time, so I just had to find a place for it on the playlist. I think it fits well in this scene.

Song: Running Up That Hill by Placebo
Listen During: Chapter 25
Thoughts: The perfect song for this climactic chapter. It’s creepy, with the pulsing heartbeat-like sound in the background that mimics the increasing dread of the scene.

Song: Life is Beautiful by Vega4
Listen During: The last page
Thoughts: I wanted to end with an uplifting song for the final page's reflections.

  5. Wow! I didn't recognize any of these songs beyond Kings of Leon and even then I don't KNOW that song.

So, I went on youtube to check some of these people out and I totally fell in love with DAMIEN RICE.

I mean, wow. I haven't had a chance to read Clarity, I went to go buy it and my bookstore didn't have it... but whenever I am able to find a copy I really want to see how this songs related to chapter 5. It's a pretty conflicted song but so pretty.

Thanks for a chance to win!

  11. I would say a great addition would be Third Eye by Tool. You know, since her inner eye is already open. :) Not really sure where it would fit though.

  16. I love "Closer" by Kings of Leon, and it does have an insanely eerie feel to it, therefore, I would choose it to be the best. But I must interject that I absolutely, adore (read: worship) Interpol as well! Amazing band :D

P.S - I love the word "ass-kickery" because it so reminds me of own favorite (and made-up) word "douche-baggery" hahahaha :P

Thank you SO much for this amazing opportunity to win! :)
